Tripura Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag Dhankar was found dead inside his office at the state police headquarters in Agartala on Monday, sending shockwaves through the state’s administrative and law enforcement circles. Preliminary reports indicate that the death is being treated as a suspected suicide; however, officials have not yet released the final findings, and an investigation has been launched to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.
Senior police officers and government officials rushed to the headquarters after the news emerged, while the body was taken to a hospital for further examination. Dhankar, a 1994-batch IPS officer, had taken charge as Tripura’s DGP in 2025 and was regarded as an experienced officer with a long career in policing.
