J&K Issues SOPs for School Safety Amid Heavy Rainfall, Flash Floods and Cloudburst Threats

The Directorate of School Education, Kashmir (DSEK) has issued a fresh advisory outlining Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for school safety during inclement weather conditions. In light of recent cloudburst incidents, all Heads of Institutions (HOIs) and staff have been directed to remain on heightened vigilance, particularly in disaster-prone areas. Schools located near rivers, streams, and lakes have been placed on high alert with strict precautionary measures, including continuous monitoring of water levels, well-rehearsed evacuation plans, and open communication with local disaster management authorities. The advisory stresses accountability, making HOIs personally responsible for implementing safety protocols and safeguarding students and infrastructure. Any failure to comply will be treated as a serious lapse. The DSEK emphasized that these SOPs must be followed in both letter and spirit to ensure student safety under adverse weather conditions.
