All Gates of Salal Dam in Reasi Opened Amid Heavy Rainfall

Amidst continuous and heavy rainfall across Jammu & Kashmir, authorities in Reasi district have opened all gates of the Salal Dam as a precautionary measure to regulate rising water levels.

According to officials, the move comes after water inflow in the Chenab River increased significantly due to incessant downpour in the region. The opening of all spillway gates was necessary to ensure dam safety and prevent overflow risks that could threaten surrounding areas.

District authorities have issued an advisory for residents in low-lying and downstream areas, urging them to remain vigilant and avoid venturing near the riverbanks. Police and disaster management teams have also been deployed to monitor the situation and provide assistance wherever needed.

The Meteorological Department has forecast continued heavy rainfall in parts of Jammu division, raising concerns of flash floods and landslides. Officials emphasized that the situation is under close watch, and all preventive measures are being taken to minimize risks to life and property.

Salal Dam, one of the major hydropower projects on the Chenab, plays a crucial role in the region’s electricity generation. However, during periods of heavy rainfall, controlled release of water becomes essential to maintain safety and prevent potential disasters.

Authorities reassured the public that the situation is under control and appealed for calm while safety protocols remain in place.
