A man was killed and three Special Operations Group (SOG) personnel were injured during a late-night security operation in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district after the man allegedly attempted to snatch a service rifle from police, officials said.
According to police, an SOG team had laid an ambush along the Jaie-Gandoh road following intelligence about suspicious movement in the area. At around 11:30 pm, the team intercepted a youth who allegedly attacked the personnel, leading to a scuffle. During the confrontation, an SOG jawan opened fire, critically injuring the man while three police personnel also sustained injuries.
All four were shifted to Sub-District Hospital, Bhaderwah, and later referred to Government Medical College, Doda. The injured man, identified as 30-year-old Aarif Hussain of Cheeka village, later succumbed to his injuries. Police have also detained a religious preacher, and an investigation is underway to establish the complete sequence of events.
