In a significant step towards regulating road safety and curbing public nuisance, the District Magistrate of Jammu has issued a formal order prohibiting the sale and purchase of unauthorised vehicle modification accessories under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNSS).
The directive targets accessories such as pressure horns, modified exhausts/silencers, high-intensity LED lights, engine tuning devices, and other illegal aftermarket parts that are commonly used to alter vehicle performance or create excessive noise. These modifications are not only hazardous but also violate traffic and pollution norms.
Shops, garages, and individuals found selling or installing such accessories within Jammu district will face strict legal consequences, including seizure of materials, heavy fines, and possible imprisonment under BNSS provisions.
The district administration cited increasing complaints regarding vehicle noise pollution, reckless driving, and unlawful modifications as the primary reasons behind this enforcement. Police and transport officials have been directed to carry out regular inspections and take swift action against violators.
Citizens are urged to refrain from using or supporting such illegal modifications and ensure their vehicles remain compliant with certified safety and emission standards.
This order marks a firm administrative stand to improve road safety, reduce environmental disturbance, and enforce lawful vehicular conduct within Jammu.
