In a serious counter to SpiceJet’s version of events at Srinagar Airport on July 26, an eyewitness has come forward to clarify what truly transpired between a serving Indian Army officer and the airline’s ground staff — painting a starkly different picture from what’s being circulated in the media.
The eyewitness, who claims to have witnessed the entire episode at the boarding gate, calls out what they describe as “biased and irresponsible reporting” that failed to verify facts before framing the Army officer as the aggressor.
According to the account, the officer arrived alone with only a cabin bag weighing around 8–9 kg — already cleared at the check-in counter without any objection. Traveling on urgent personal leave, he had no checked-in luggage and was not carrying anything extraordinary. However, at the boarding gate, a group of 4–5 SpiceJet staff reportedly confronted him aggressively over the same bag’s weight.
Despite the officer calmly explaining his situation and even attempting to remove clothing from the bag to avoid confrontation, the staff allegedly mocked him, saying, “Aaj army wala fansa hai,” and refused to escalate the matter to a senior officer. The gate was then shut on him mid-conversation, further escalating tensions.
A minor scuffle reportedly ensued as the officer attempted to reason with them. He was said to be visibly outnumbered, shaken, and unarmed, while the staff grew increasingly hostile. The eyewitness insists that any allegations of him assaulting staff are false and that he appeared injured, while the SpiceJet team quickly filed an FIR and sought hospital treatment — which the witness suspects was more defensive than genuine.
The message sharply criticizes media outlets that, without verifying details, ran with the SpiceJet version — accusing them of playing into a one-sided narrative.
