UIDAI’s Big Move: Address & Details Can Now Be Retrieved Online

New Aadhaar Update System Lets Users Access and Modify Key Information from Home

In a major digital leap towards simplifying citizen services, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has introduced a new Aadhaar update system that enables users to retrieve, verify, and update key personal details such as address—entirely from home. This initiative marks a significant step in UIDAI’s ongoing effort to make Aadhaar more accessible, user-friendly, and secure.

What’s New?

UIDAI has rolled out an advanced, online-friendly mechanism that allows residents to:

  • Retrieve Aadhaar details such as address, name, and demographic information via a secure platform
  • Update address and supporting documents using the MyAadhaar portal
  • Access an upcoming QR code-based app that allows sharing of masked or full Aadhaar details without photocopies

According to UIDAI officials, the move will eliminate the need for physical Aadhaar center visits for several common services, saving both time and resources for millions of users.

Services Now Available from Home

The following Aadhaar-related services are now accessible digitally:

  • Proof of Identity (POI)
  • Proof of Address (POA)

Users can access these services via the official MyAadhaar portal, ensuring seamless document uploads without any offline intervention.

Focus on Data Security & Privacy

The new QR code-sharing feature, expected to roll out in the coming weeks, will offer users the option to share a masked Aadhaar version, ensuring:

  • Limited data exposure
  • Enhanced privacy during KYC verification
  • Prevention of misuse through printed Aadhaar copies

UIDAI has also stated that Aadhaar PVC cards or photocopies will no longer be needed once the app is fully operational.

Still Requires Offline Visit for Some Services

While the new system covers many services, certain updates still require a physical Aadhaar Seva Kendra visit, including:

  • Mobile number change
  • Biometric updates (fingerprint, iris, photo)
  • Name, gender, or date of birth correction

These updates involve higher authentication and are not yet eligible for remote access due to security concerns.

How to Access the New Services

  1. Visit https://myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in
  2. Login with Aadhaar number and OTP
  3. Choose the service (update address, download e-Aadhaar, etc.)
  4. Upload required documents (if applicable)
  5. Track update status online

Conclusion

UIDAI’s new digital push brings Aadhaar services closer to India’s goal of paperless, presence-less governance. As more features move online, citizens can expect greater control over their digital identity—securely, conveniently, and from the comfort of home.
