In response to recent security challenges and escalating tensions with Pakistan, India is set to conduct civil defence mock drills across four key border states—Gujarat, Jammu & Kashmir (J&K), Rajasthan, and Haryana—on Thursday, May 29, 2025. These exercises are part of a broader initiative to bolster emergency preparedness and civilian readiness in the face of potential threats.
Gujarat, Rajasthan, and J&K: Focus on Civil Defence
The Ministry of Home Affairs has organized these drills as part of the nationwide Operation Abhyaas, which aims to enhance civilian preparedness against emergencies. In Gujarat and Rajasthan, the drills will involve coordinated evacuations, blackout simulations, and public awareness campaigns. In J&K, the exercises will focus on assessing response times and coordination among local authorities and emergency services.
Haryana: Statewide Emergency Exercise
Haryana will conduct its statewide emergency exercise, Operation Shield, on May 29 across all 22 districts. The drill aims to coordinate efforts between civil authorities and local communities, involving civil defence volunteers and national service organizations. A 15-minute controlled blackout near strategic locations is also planned at 8 pm.
The coordinated drills across these states underscore India’s commitment to ensuring civilian safety and national security amidst ongoing tensions.
