Pregnancy Humanoid Unveiled: Robotic Surrogate for Full-Term Pregnancy Introduced in Beijing

At the 2025 World Robot Conference in Beijing, Kaiwa Technology, led by Dr. Zhang Qifeng of Nanyang Technological University, introduced a revolutionary project — the Pregnancy Humanoid. This robotic surrogate is designed to carry full-term pregnancies, marking a radical intersection of biotechnology and robotics.

Dr. Zhang’s vision aims to address global reproductive challenges, offering a potential solution for couples unable to conceive naturally, while also opening doors for advanced medical research. The humanoid system integrates cutting-edge AI, life-support mechanisms, and simulated biological functions to replicate the conditions of human pregnancy.

While the concept has sparked immense curiosity, it also raises ethical, medical, and societal questions about the future of childbirth and parenting. Experts suggest its development could redefine family planning, maternal healthcare, and human–machine relationships in the decades to come
