Kishtwar Flash Flood Toll Climbs: 42 Dead, Over 200 Missing

Kishtwar, Jammu & Kashmir — The devastating flash flood that struck Chisoti Village in Kishtwar district has claimed at least 42 lives, with more than 200 people still reported missing. The disaster occurred near the starting point of the Machail Mata Yatra, a revered pilgrimage route, catching both devotees and local residents by surprise.

According to officials, the flash flood swept away homes, vehicles, and temporary pilgrimage shelters in its path. The force of the water has left the area buried under thick debris, making rescue operations extremely challenging.

Indian Army, J&K Police, NDRF, paramilitary forces, and local administration teams are working round-the-clock to locate survivors and recover bodies. Heavy machinery, boats, and sniffer dogs have been deployed, while aerial surveillance is being conducted to identify trapped individuals.

Authorities warn that the death toll may rise as search efforts continue in the remote and rugged terrain. Emergency relief camps have been set up to provide shelter, food, and medical aid to affected families.
