Ceasefire Breach Triggers High-Level Security Review by Indian Army Chief

Following the ceasefire and airspace violations on the night of May 10–11, 2025, Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi convened a high-level review with Army Commanders overseeing the Western Borders. In this meeting, General Dwivedi granted full operational authority to the Army Commanders, empowering them to take kinetic action against any violations of the understanding reached during the Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) talks held on May 10, 2025.

This directive underscores India’s commitment to safeguarding its territorial integrity and responding decisively to any breaches of the ceasefire agreement. The DGMO talks, which were facilitated by U.S. diplomacy, had initially brokered a ceasefire between India and Pakistan after a series of escalatory military actions, including missile and drone strikes, in the preceding days. Despite the ceasefire, reports of violations emerged, with explosions heard in key cities like Srinagar and Jammu, leading to renewed tensions.

The situation remains fluid, with both sides on high alert. General Dwivedi’s decision to grant full authority to Army Commanders reflects the Indian Army’s readiness to respond effectively to any further provocations, aiming to maintain peace and stability along the Western Borders.
