The annual Amarnath Yatra, originally scheduled for 38 days, has been suspended after just 28 days, with officials citing significantly low pilgrim turnout as the primary reason. Despite extensive security arrangements—over 35,000 security personnel deployed on each track—the pilgrimage witnessed a daily average of only around 500 yatris in recent days.
Authorities stated that with over 4 lakh pilgrims having already visited the sacred Amarnath Cave this year, continuing the yatra for another 10 days was not logistically justifiable. The decision was made in the interest of resource optimization, safety, and ground realities.
The early conclusion also reflects changing pilgrimage patterns and evolving challenges in maintaining large-scale security operations in sensitive regions like Jammu and Kashmir. While the yatra witnessed a peaceful and incident-free run in 2025, the unexpectedly low participation raised questions about enthusiasm levels, possibly affected by weather conditions and broader concerns.
The administration has thanked all pilgrims for their cooperation and reiterated its commitment to organizing safer, smoother yatras in the future.
