The Indian Army has achieved a historic milestone by operating its first exclusive freight train on the Udhampur–Srinagar–Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL). The train, running from BD Bari to Anantnag on 12–13 September, carried 753 metric tonnes of Advance Winter Stocking (AWS) essentials for Army units in J&K. This initiative marks a breakthrough in winter logistics and operational preparedness in the Himalayan terrain. In a remarkable display of civil–military fusion, the return rake will carry Kashmiri apples to national markets, offering farmers a reliable alternative to road transport. This dual-use approach highlights the Army’s role in nation-building—strengthening defence resilience while boosting local economy, connectivity, and livelihood security in Kashmir.
