ISRO Unveils Model of Bharatiya Antariksh Station Ahead of National Space Day

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) unveiled the model of the Bharatiya Antariksh Station (BAS), India’s upcoming space station, at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, a day before National Space Day. The landmark project aims to launch its first module, BAS-01, by 2028, weighing 10 tonnes and orbiting at 450 km altitude. By 2035, India plans to expand BAS to five modules, positioning itself among the select nations with an operational orbital laboratory.

Currently, only the International Space Station (ISS) and China’s Tiangong are functional in orbit. BAS will feature advanced systems, including life support for astronauts, indigenous docking and berthing, an automatic hatch system, a microgravity research platform, special windows for experiments, refuelling capabilities, and spacewalk support. This ambitious step reflects India’s growing stature in space technology and its long-term vision of enabling human space exploration. 🚀
