The Centre has approved the deployment of three Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) battalions in the Jammu region as part of a major security rejig aimed at strengthening the counter-terror grid. These units will replace the Rashtriya Rifles currently stationed in Udhampur and Kathua, freeing the Army to focus on guarding the Line of Control (LoC) with Pakistan and the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China.
Each battalion, with around 800 personnel, has been strengthened with experienced counter-insurgency officers and jawans, supported by modern weapons, communication systems, and armoured vehicles. The CRPF units will also take over the infrastructure and assets of existing Army formations in the region.
Officials said the redeployment is part of a broader strategy being implemented since the abrogation of Article 370, as security in Jammu’s hinterland and forested areas has become increasingly crucial following recent terror activitiesThe Centre has approved the deployment of three Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) battalions in the Jammu region as part of a major security rejig aimed at strengthening the counter-terror grid.
