CM Omar Abdullah Visits Kishtwar, Announces Ex-Gratia Relief for Cloudburst Victims

Kishtwar, Jammu & Kashmir — August 16, 2025:

In the aftermath of the devastating cloudburst and flash floods that struck Kishtwar, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah visited the affected areas today to assess the situation and meet the grieving families. The calamity, which claimed multiple lives and caused significant damage to infrastructure and property, has left the region reeling.

During his visit, the CM expressed profound sorrow over the loss of lives and extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. “The Government stands firmly with the people of Kishtwar in this hour of grief,” he said, reiterating the administration’s commitment to provide full support.

As immediate financial relief, CM Abdullah announced ex-gratia assistance from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, including:

  • ₹2 lakh for the families of each deceased individual
  • ₹1 lakh for severely injured and ₹50,000 for minor injuries
  • ₹1 lakh for fully damaged structures
  • ₹50,000 for severely damaged and ₹25,000 for partially damaged structures

He also directed district authorities to immediately begin restoration work on damaged roads, power lines, and water supply systems to ensure normalcy returns as soon as possible.

Emergency teams, including the NDRF, SDRF, and local administration, are continuing rescue and relief operations on a war footing. The state government has assured continuous monitoring and assistance in the days ahead.
