In a significant diplomatic flashpoint, Pakistan has cut off the gas supply to residences of Indian diplomats stationed in Islamabad, sources revealed on Saturday. Local gas cylinder suppliers have reportedly been instructed by Pakistani authorities not to sell cylinders to the diplomats, leaving families in a difficult situation. In a further move, mineral water supplies to the diplomats’ residences have also been halted. The action, seen as a breach of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, has raised concerns in New Delhi over the treatment of its diplomatic staff abroad. Officials indicate that the Ministry of External Affairs is likely to take up the matter with Pakistan at the earliest. The development comes at a time of heightened tensions between the two countries, adding a new dimension to their already strained relations.
