Siachen Glacier – July 26, 2025: In a poignant and powerful moment of return, General Upendra Dwivedi, Chief of Army Staff (COAS), visited a forward post at Siachen—the world’s highest and most challenging battlefield. The visit was not only a part of his regular review of operational readiness but also a highly personal journey back to where his military story began.
What made this visit especially meaningful was General Dwivedi’s reunion with seven Junior Commissioned Officers (JCOs) who had served under his command in the same battalion, 18 JAK RIF, early in his career. These were not just formal meetings but emotional reunions—men who had once looked to him as their young officer now stood proudly to welcome him as their Chief.
