Kishtwar, August 14, 2025 — A devastating flash flood in Chisoti Village, Kishtwar district of Jammu & Kashmir, has claimed at least 32 lives, confirmed J&K Leader of Opposition and BJP MLA from Paddar-Nagseni, Sunil Sharma. The tragedy struck at Chashoti, the starting point of the revered Machail Mata Yatra, leaving the region in shock.
Rescue operations are underway with teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), police, and Army working round the clock to locate missing persons and assist survivors. Authorities fear the death toll may rise as search efforts continue in the flood-affected areas.
The flash flood, triggered by intense rainfall, swept through the village, causing widespread destruction. Officials have urged pilgrims and locals to stay alert and avoid vulnerable areas until the situation stabilizes. Relief measures and temporary shelters have been arranged for the displaced families.
